Regional Beat
That's the name Matuto S.A gave his own sound, and it became a movement. The film Regional Beat tells the story in three acts.
Act I
The Regional
The viola caipira is the foundation. Matuto S.A grew up in Franca, a city known for its sertanejo duos, on the border between São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Through the poet Carlos de Assumpção he discovered cururu, a tradition of improvised verses sung over the viola.

Act II
The Beat
Hip hop brings the beat, the sample and the rhyme. Over the viola come rap, reggae, funk and jazz, plus the trumpet Matuto plays on stage.

Act III
Regional Beat
The meeting became a movement. Regional Beat brings Brazil's heartland closer to global sounds and reaches into fashion, film and the visual arts: a satellite dish planted in red earth.
